His first story was published in a magazine "Balaka" ("fool") at the age of 17. After this, he became a prolific writer and went on to publish over 50 short stories, novels, plays and travelogues. His wrote most of his stories after 1850 when society witnessed a lot of change in the form of political independence from Britain as well as being exposed to many new ideas. He wrote many novels using historical characters from Bengal's past as well as based purely on imagination. The author has also provided all the important personal details such as his birth and death dates, family background and relationship with his parents. The last chapter of this book is devoted to sharing some of his opinions about what he thought was wrong with modern society and how to overcome it. This book is written in a lucid and easy to follow style.
